Jeff, Your videos were so good and extremely helpful. I was planning on starting seedlings in the Spring in my heated dome (greenhouse). Is it necessary that seeds get a "cold" treatment. Thanks.
Nick, the poppy is best sown on top or very lightly covered. The yarrow could probably be covered with a small bit of soil too. The rock layer provides good drainage for germinating seed and discourages algae and moss growth. Pinyon will germinate with no treatment. Depending on how and when it was collected and stored you may want to soak it in water for several hours if its water content is very low. It is best to change the water often or you could also suspend the seed in a muslin bag in a toilet tank for a day or so.

Thank you Dianne,
Most but not all do benefit from a cold treatment. Which ones are you sowing?
so we should sow poppy and yarrow seed on top.
for vegetables i havent been using grit. what benefit is there to having the seed covered by this rock layer?
pinion and junipers. do these need a cold treatment to germinate?
